Event Overview

Alberto Cherubini,  Derivatives and Risk consultant for the ICFR, made an informal presentation, followed by an open Q&A with Barbara Ridpath, CEO and Dr Richard Reid, Director of Research at the ICFR. The roundtable discussed the following topics, among others:

• OTC derivatives regulatory reform versus the status of current proposals (coming from the US, EU and G20)

         - do the proposals address the issues?
         - what are the aims of regulatory changes? what is on the table? do they match?
         - example: data repositories
→ the devil is in the detail - lessons from ICFR roundtables
→ will they help systemic risk?

• Section 106 (of Senator Blanche Lincoln’s OTC derivatives reform bill - click here to view) on separating banks from derivatives - how serious a threat?

• Exemptions to end-users: the pros and cons
         - example: why is Warren Buffett concerned?

Please note that the journalist briefing was intended to inform thinking and promote debate around the issue of regulatory reform in the OTC derivatives market and adhered to Chatham House Rule. On-the-record comment can be provided on request.
