Hong Kong
Overview
Barbara Ridpath, CEO of the ICFR, spoke at the last event organised by The British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong: "Regulatory Change in Europe and the US and its Implications for Asia"
Following the November G20 Summit in Cannes, and increasingly alarming scenarios of sovereign and banking crises within the European Union, it is a good time to reflect on the outlook for regulatory change in the financial system and its potential impact. In particular, issues of extraterritoriality, regulatory arbitrage and the future prospects for Europe will have direct effects on Asian financial markets, capital flows and investors. At the breakfast, Barbara discussed:
-a brief comparison of proposed regulatory change in Europe and the US
-Asian influence in the G20 and regulatory change
-unresolved issues in the financial system, and
-implications for Asia.
