European Commission to Publish Proposals on Derivatives, Credit Default Swaps and Short Selling

On Wednesday 15th September 2010 Commissioner Michel Bernier will unveil the Commission’s proposals on derivatives, credit default swaps and short selling. As part of the EU regulatory response to the crisis, these proposals are designed to restore confidence and trust in financial markets by requiring greater transparency in derivatives dealing. The proposals will include common standards for short-selling and credit default swaps trading activities as well as give greater power to financial supervisors within the EU.
