Systemic Risk and Financial Regulation – Causes and Lessons from the Financial Crisis

31 Dec 2009

Announcement / Second call for Papers - Submission Deadline

A joint workshop by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the Centre for Economic Policy Research (London), and the Journal of Financial Intermediation Bank for International Settlements, Basel, Switzerland.

The recent financial and economic crisis starting in 2007 reminded economists and regulators of the frailty of the financial system. Uncertainty, asymmetric information, adverse incentives, and strategic behaviour can become key drivers of the transmission of shocks through the financial system which can easily spread into the real sector. Enhancing the stability of the financial system and the design of financial regulation pose important
challenges for the future. Against this background, the organisers of the workshop solicit theoretical and empirical papers related to the following set of issues. Submissions in other areas of risk management, banking supervision and financial stability are also welcome.
