Corporate governance in Asia needs to be tailored for local conditions in Asia, according to the International Centre for Financial Regulation (ICFR). Speaking at a corporate governance event held yesterday at Hong Kong's British Consulate-General, Charles Taylor, the ICFR chief operating officer, said models promoted by the U.S. and UK were not necessarily the best for Asian nations.

7 December 2011. In a speech at the British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, the Chief Executive of the International Centre for Financial Regulation (ICFR) will warn on 7th December that the Eurozone crisis is having a profound impact on economies across Asia, and argue that Asia needs to play an enlarged role in international policy-making, such as the G20 and the Financial Stability Board, in order to ensure that regulatory convergence is appropriate for Asia and takes into account different levels of financial development in economies.

The establishment of a new International Centre for Financial Regulation (ICFR), to be led by Barbara Ridpath as CEO, was announced today by Economic Secretary and City Minister Kitty Usher and Interim ICFR Chairman, Mervyn Davies. The ICFR is an industry-led project independent of the UK Government and will be officially launched at the end of the year and aims to become an international centre of excellence focused entirely on financial regulation.
